L.A. Energy Atlas

I thought this fit really well with our theme. The speaker I listened to yesterday, Stephanie Pincetl, spoke about her use of "urban metabolism" in researching energy, water, and waste flows in Los Angeles. She demonstrated for us a website that her and her team developed over the course of 5 years, which presents a very detailed and highly granular view of energy consumption throughout L.A. While the data itself is interesting, I'm particularly fascinated with the mode of visual representation - the aesthetics and digital architecture of the site itself. When I asked her about it, she simply replied - "yeah, we hired a web developer." Sadly, she wasn't as interested in the visual representation as I was... http://www.energyatlas.ucla.edu

  1. By the way, "spoiler alert" - Beverly Hills has one of the highest rates per capita of energy consumption in L.A. for single family homes. Who knew?
